My dear friends,
Today, my area of Colorado experienced its first big heavy duty snowstorm!
It was a whopper!
Knowing the storm was on its way, and having lived in the mountains for several years previously, I thought I was prepared, never giving a thought to loss of electricity as a possibility.
For last several years, I had lived in a newer area of Longmont and never lost heat and electricity, so why would I now, in my new home, in a different area, have this experience, I thought?
Well, as the snow fell and I awakened in the darkness of an early morning, at least eleven inches of wet, heavy snow had fallen by six o'clock. My first instinct was to flip the wall switch for lights....no lights, no heat, no coffee!!!
So out of practice in "roughing it", my first instincts were to layer up with every sweater and sweat pants I could put on, ski hat, neck warmer and onto lighting every candle in my entire house! Not just for light (remember it is still dark outside and inside, too) but to try to create heat for my home.
Needing to take a few moments to formulate "Plan B" for my day filled with client
appointments, recipes for soups, cookies that I wanted to bake but now this, how to
proceed and face this new situation...what to do?
Of course...call my sister in Virginia!
Needing to save the battery in my cell phone (no electricity to recharge it), my sister Teri looked up weather conditions on her computer for Longmont, agreed to call my clients to cancel appointments for the day, offered some "survival" tactics and assured me that the trucks were out fixing the wires.
With her assurance, I got my thoughts together about what to do next?
Not knowing how long this "electrical inconvenience" was going to last, I did what every survivalist does....grabbed a few bottles of beer, the biggest wine bottle I had in the house, all the meats in the refrigerator and went out doors to bury them in the snow!
After all, I still had the gas grill available and plenty of veggies in the "frig"!
If I was to have a day of solitude, I was now going to enjoy it!
As daylight broke, I pulled out several business magazines I so have wanted to read for weeks and in the silence of the living room, just stopped and took some time to read and think.
As I sat in the quiet, amidst the candlelight, beautiful falling snow with all its visual exquisiteness, I found myself going to a feeling of GRATITUDE..
What wonderful blessings I have in my life including you my friends.
What it took for me to be forced to put a STOP sign in my life was a lack of electricity.
However, how many folks, I wondered, don't just STOP in their lives, take a moment to do what they have so wanted to do, enjoy their surroundings, listen to their higher selves in the silence of a room, and find those "kernels" of the pieces of their lives to be grateful for?
It has been my experience, in doing my spiritual counseling work, that illness of some sort is frequently used, the death of a loved one, a loss of a job, a family separation, floods and fires of properties, a humbling of the ego....all to get one to STOP and look at their life with GRATITUDE, for what they have left in some instances.
How far I have come, I thought, that it only took a few hours of no electricity to STOP
my Type A, over-achieving personality, to go to GRATITUDE....how far I have come
on my soul's journey in this lifetime.
Eventually, the house began to buzz again with appliances starting up, the furnace kicking into gear, computers clicking and lights and lamps lighting up.
The phone again began to ring, ideas for creative projects filled my mind and this story formulated to share with you.
STOP in your life...take moments in quiet to listen to your soul's messages...pay attention to signs...and most of all, be in GRATITUDE for this moment in time no matter how it may appear...stay calm and BELIEVE IN YOURSELF that you have what it takes to move through the moments of inconvenience into the sunshine that is always after life's storms.

NUMBER ONE:
As we wind down the energies of October, the tenth month and ten adds to Number One, I thought of bringing to you a "nutshell "of the Number One issues and energies.
Know that ACTIVITY, AMBITION, APPROVAL are the issues of primary importance of anyone with a Number One birthday number, Life Lesson or Soul Number. This temperament values anything new, its own independence, and obedience by others to it, and any matters connecting to principles.
This mental number prefers not to do anything too physical. This creative energy strives to be original in its thinking and action is its "buzz word".
Good in business and finances when it is about the good of others rather than personal prestige seems to be a primary motivation.
Important things to know about Number One: it is good at STARTING THINGS but does NOT LIKE TO STICK AROUND and FINISH and MANAGE what it creates!
When the Number One is expressed POSITIVELY, it is tough, forceful, determined, self-aware and truly knows its own mind.
But having already noted in other newsletters, every number has "both sides of the street" energies and so does Number one.
In the negative or lower vibrational energy, Number One's can be pushy, willful, aggressive, demand to have its own way, want more instant gratification, show a very opinionated egotistical attitude, and above all, show a very domineering behavior that comes through as "a know it all".
Going straight from A to B is natural for Number One so anything haphazard, careless, lacking in logic and orderliness sets Number One into craziness!
On the softer side of Number One energy, whether it is # 1, 10 or 19 which all add to # 1, know it does not like to be told what to do. Remember, this is a "leader" energy not a "follower" personality.
When the # 1 does not understand itself or isn't self-aware or has feelings that others do not understand it, Number One can become shy, self-conscious, vacillating and fearful of expressing its own opinion.
The Number One is a time of "new beginnings" so sit quietly, repeat to oneself "I am clear about what I am creating. I am determined to begin my new venture and I am confident about my abilities and who I am as a soul" ..... and so it is.
