Today we are having a big snow storm, perfect for the first day of winter and so close to Christmas. We definitely will have snow on the ground for the big day's arrival on Sunday.

As I sat quietly in my beautifully decorated living room this early morning, watching the snow surround the entire neighborhood, I found my mind drifting back to an earlier Christmas....much earlier.

When my son was about six or seven years old, I found myself at the end of a relationship, on the edge of homelessness, and it was December...Christmas time.

We were given the opportunity to put all our worldly possessions
and ourselves into a temporary shelter of a one car garage. So we
moved in...boxes of clothing, one twin bed, a television, lamp, stand
and one upholstered chair.

I had access to the household kitchen to cook for us but all meals were eaten in the garage. Heat was with a small space heater...but now it was Christmas time and I had this small child so looking forward to all the excitement and wonder that this holiday should be bringing.

                                With no support system, relatives and very little money, I 
                                became determined to have a happy Christmas for my son    
                                and in turn, for me.

                                No room or money for a Christmas tree, I decided that a
                                potted Norfolk Pine tree would do just fine for the occasion
                                and would fit somewhere into the garage. Thrift stores and
                                consignment shops became my new shopping experiences and although I am not a present "wrapper", his presents piled up under the Norfolk pine tree which was now so beautifully lit with multi-colored lights, ribbons, and Christmas balls.

A very large Christmas stocking was hung with tacks on the wall filled with all the candies I knew he liked and as the big day approached, he and I, in this tiny one car garage, were filled with the excitement of Christmas on its way.

Today, my son is forty-one years old and probably does not even remember that Christmas. By February of the following year, I obtained a good job and moved us into a lovely two bedroom apartment leaving the painful memories of the one car garage behind....or so I thought.

Many Christmas seasons have come and gone since then but I remember that one vividly. The simplicity of it all. The gratitude that I was able to provide happy memories to a small child and the ever growing knowingness that we are always provided for by Spirit.

Throughout this month of December I have been writing about the Number Three which in esoteric Numerology represents our values and attitude adjustments about our values... about what and who is really important in one's life.

As I now sit now quietly in my exquisitely decorated living room with a huge brightly lit pine tree, decorated "to the hilt"! I am remembering my little Norfolk Pine. The Simplicity, the humility learned from accepting conditions and making the best from them and the gratitude learned to appreciate what had been provided.
